Wikipedia Offline is a browser for Wikipedia that has been specially engineered for offline access. It is designed to deliver the greatest, most customizable reading experience with blazing fast search and loading speeds. For example, all page redirections are automatic! This means that USA will automatically route to United States of America.
The app works by downloading Wikipedia onto your iPhone, iPod, or iPad. You will need a WiFi connection for this initial download. This means that each and every article -- yes, EVERY article -- will be available for you with no internet connection required. This app is perfect for plane flights, hotels, night-time reading, research, and any other adventures you may have!
When you first launch the app, you will be required to download the Wikipedia database (using WiFi). It has been meticulously compressed (English is under 3GB) while maintaining all of the data in every single article. (Note that pictures and tables are not included). This download is fully resumable and hosted on high speed servers located around the world.
After that, you can download the latest version of the database in the app, or you can download additional languages. Please note that there is a nominal $0.99 fee to cover our costs. It actually costs us about this much to deliver high speed downloads to you and we make no money from these. To be extremely clear: updates to the application will always be free, but these optional content updates are a nominal charge.
